Going into this morning’s first quarter earnings report, analysts had been expecting to see State Street report earnings of $0.85 per share, but actual earnings came in above estimates at $0.88 per share.

During the same period last year the company had earnings of $0.75.

Revenues during the quarter were $2.36 billion, versus analyst estimates for $2.29 billion.

Assets under management rose 7.7% year over year to $2.1 trillion.

• Coca Cola (KO) : Coca Cola will be reporting first quarter numbers tomorrow, and analysts have forecast $0.74 per share. During the same period last year Coca Cola had earnings of $0.65.
• Apple Computer (AAPL) : Apple is going to report fiscal second quarter numbers tomorrow, and analysts have forecast earnings of $2.43 per share, compared with $1.33 it earned during the same period last year.
• Altera Corp (ALTR) : Altera is due to reporting Q1 numbers, with Wall Street forecasts calling for $0.40 per share. For the same period last year the company had earnings of $0.15.
• State Street (STT) : State Street is going to report Q1 earnings tomorrow. Analysts have forecast $0.75 per share, verse $1.04 during the same period last year.

• Dick’s Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) was upgraded today to Neutral from Underperform by Buckingham.
• State Street Corp (NYSE: STT) was upgraded by CLSA to Outperform from Underperform and the broker lifted its price target on the stock to $62 from $45.
• JP Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) received an upgrade today from Fox-Pitt to Outperform from In Line with a $55 price target.
• Schlumberger (NYSE SLB) was upgraded by Citigroup today to Buy from Hold and the broker boosted its price target on the stock to $80 from $56.

• Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) was downgraded by Davenport from a Buy to Neutral
• Andarko Petroleum (NYSE: APC) downgraded by JP Morgan to Neutral from Overweight
• Baker Hughes (NYSE: BHI) was lowered today by Citigroup to a Sell from Hold and the broker left its price target on the stock steady at $39.
• BJ Services (NYSE: BJS) downgraded by Citigroup to Sell from Hold and the broker lowered its price target on the stock to $14 from $16.
