The market has long been expecting news that software giant Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) will be joining the world of mobile phones, and reports today suggest that we can expect to hear some official news from the company within the next 2 weeks.
According to an article from the Wall Street Journal, sources close to the company believe that we are about to get the news that we have been waiting to hear… Google powered phones are on their way, and we should expect to see them hit the market as early as next summer!
The move will push Google further along its recent path of moving away from relying solely on pay-per-click Web advertising, a move it has been agressively taking over the past year. Google powered phones are expected to combine some of Google’s most popular features, including Google Maps, YouTube, and Gmail.
It is expected that Google will make the software completely open source in order to let independent software designers to design and build more phone applications.
